How much could a Pool and/or Recreation Center cost?
No one really knows for certain, because the Council has only seen fancy pictures like the one above and no cost estimates for building or maintenance have been provided.
What have others paid for similar facilities, or planned to pay for similar facilities recently?
1) St. Louis County has been talking about building a Recreation Center in North St. Louis County, to be housed (hopefully) on land provided by UMSL on the UMSL campus. Cost estimates to build this "indoor track facility" are estimated to cost $80 Million, or at least that is how much a local county councilwoman thinks it will take to build. Promoters of the project have compared this proposed facility with the $2.5 Million JDL Fast Track in North Carolina or the $68 Million sports center in Virginia Beach, VA.
As for maintaining such a project, Fenton recently announced that it is losing millions to support the pool and rece center (see story here), so the city is trying to sell the center to the YMCA.
